Acoustic panels are engineered to absorb sound through open-cell foam or mineral wool behind a stretched fabric face. Saturate that assembly and you have not cleaned it — you have destroyed the property you paid for.
A fabric face over a track frame with insulation behind. The fabric is the only washable element and it is not removable in most installations. Cleaning happens on the face, with controlled moisture, or the core wicks and stays damp inside a sealed cavity.
Foam and felt panels
PET felt and melamine foam absorb liquid readily and dry slowly. Wet cleaning changes the density of the surface layer, which changes the absorption coefficient. The panel still looks like a panel and no longer performs like one.
Perforated wood and MDF
The finish is washable; the perforations and the acoustic fleece behind them are not. Water driven into a perforation sits against the fleece and stains outward over the following week.
Where the soiling comes from
In Dubai it is almost always three things: airborne dust settling on a vertical face, hand and shoulder contact at door height, and nicotine or cooking film in hospitality spaces. Each needs a different approach and mixing them is how panels get ruined.
The method
Dry first, always
Test patch
An unseen corner, photographed before and after, shown to you before the wall is touched. On a fabric panel we test for dye stability and for shrinkage at the track edge.
Dry soil removal
HEPA vacuum with a soft upholstery head, worked in one direction. On most panels this alone removes 70 to 80 percent of what is visible, because the soiling is dust rather than staining.
Compressed air on foam and felt
Low pressure, angled across the face rather than into it, to lift dust out of the open cells instead of driving it deeper.
Targeted spot treatment
Only where a mark survives the dry stage. Solvent or low-moisture foam applied to the cloth, never sprayed onto the panel, and worked from the outside of the mark inward.
Controlled drying
Air movement across the face until surface moisture readings return to ambient. A damp acoustic panel in a sealed room is a mould substrate.
What we will not do
Saturate, steam or wet-extract an acoustic assembly. If a panel is beyond dry methods we say so and quote replacement of the fabric, which is cheaper than replacing the whole system after a soaking.
Questions
Answered plainly.
Not with a dry method. That is the entire reason we use one. Wet cleaning of foam, felt or mineral wool changes the density of the absorbing layer and permanently reduces its coefficient, and there is no way to reverse it.
Yes. The work is quiet, produces no odour and needs no drying time when the dry stage is sufficient. Where spot treatment is required we schedule it outside working hours.
Same method. Felt in particular is unforgiving of moisture — it distorts at the edges and the distortion does not relax out.
Yes, and these are the installations where the dry-first rule matters most, because the whole room was tuned around the panels' measured performance.
Annually in most offices, twice a year in hospitality and anywhere near a kitchen. Panels near an AC supply diffuser load faster than the rest of the room and are usually the ones that make the wall look uneven.
Priced after an inspection. Fixed in writing.
Every job is scoped against a written checklist you keep, and the price does not move on the day unless you ask for work outside it. Part of Luxury Deep Cleaning — see also the written checklist.
No phone quotes. An inspection, a written list, and a price that does not move on the day. Fill this in and it reaches us complete — no back-and-forth to establish the basics.
