Dos and Don'ts

Looking After Hard Floors Between Professional Cleans

Most floor damage is cumulative and preventable. Four habits do more than any product.

Grit is the enemy

Fine sand underfoot acts as an abrasive. Entrance matting, and taking shoes off, prevent more wear than any sealer or polish.

Neutral cleaner only on stone

pH-neutral, always, on marble, limestone and travertine. Vinegar, lemon and most supermarket floor products are acidic and etch permanently.

Damp, never wet, on timber

Water at a laminate or engineered timber joint swells the core and there is no way back. Steam mops are worse than water.

Change the water

A dirty mop bucket redistributes soil and leaves a film that attracts more. Change it more often than feels necessary, and use a flat microfibre rather than a string mop.

Everything we do is scoped against the written checklist, priced after an inspection and fixed in writing before any work begins.

Questions

Answered plainly.

On sealed porcelain and ceramic, generally. On stone, laminate, engineered timber and vinyl, no.

Polish is not the same as restoration. On stone, a polymer polish builds a film that eventually has to be stripped.

Annually for assessment; restoration only when honing is genuinely needed, which is far less often.
