Disinfection works on a clean surface with a stated contact time. Everything else is theatre.
Contact time
Every product has a period it must stay wet on the surface to work. Wiping it dry after ten seconds means nothing has been disinfected. This is the most common misuse, domestic and commercial.
Where it is genuinely warranted
Illness in the household, a property changing hands, food premises, clinics and nurseries, and after flooding or drainage backflow.
Where it is oversold
Routine domestic use on every surface. Thorough cleaning is enough for most household soil, and over-disinfection leaves residue without benefit.
