Dirty grout responds to mechanical scrubbing with the correct brush and dwell time. Grout that is still grey afterwards is stained through, and the honest options are recolouring or replacement.

Fresh limescale versus etched glass
Mineral deposit dissolves with the right acid and enough dwell time. Glass that has been scaled for years is physically etched, and cleaning improves it rather than clearing it.
Silicone
Once mould has keyed into the silicone bead itself, treating the surface does very little. Replacement is the fix, and it is quicker and cheaper than repeated attempts.

Any contractor should be willing to treat a small area and show you the result before committing to the whole room. If they will not, that tells you what they expect the result to be.
