Coastal salt
Salt-laden air bonds to glass, metalwork and stone and hardens the longer it is left. On seafront elevations the interval between cleans matters more than the method.
Humidity and drying
Coastal and waterfront humidity extends drying times for carpet, upholstery and mattresses. Air movement stops being optional and becomes part of the job.
Sand as an abrasive
Fine sand underfoot acts as an abrasive on hard floors. It is why traffic lanes on stone wear faster here than the same floor would elsewhere, and why entrance matting earns its keep.
